Sougia is a seaside village known for its beautiful beaches and crystal clear waters. It is located
70 km south of Chania, in the gorge of Agia Irini.
In ancient times, Sougia was the port city of Dorian Elyros, which was one of the major urban
centers in southwestern Crete, with a population of approximately 16,000 residents.
From Sougia, taking the morning bus, you can get to the gorge of Agia Irini which is an easy and
enjoyable trip. You can also enjoy the one and a half hour walk to the ancient city of Lissos,
where the ancient remains and a small Byzantine church are located. Lissos is also reachable by boat.
Renting boat can also get you to the beach of Domata. A remote beach with crystal waters of exquisite
beauty surrounded by breathtaking cliffs.
Within Sougia you will find several cafes near the beach, convenience store and restaurants with good food and fresh fish.
